Submit Your Fanfic
Wanna see your fanfic here? Awesome. Use the form below and send it in. But before we get to that, we first of all must confirm what you're sending is
your own work and that you're not ripping off someone else, or "posting your friend's fanfic for them" -- they can do it, they're grown-ups. If I find
out what you sent in to me is in fact not your work, then it will be taken down and all further submissions from you will be banned.
Now that I got my nasty side out of the way, let's continue with the guidelines for submission.
Fill the ENTIRE form out [except the comments section, that's optional].
If you do not, I will ignore your submission entirely. I need all of this information to archive your fic.
Accepted file formats
There are only certain file types I will permit. They are: .odt, .doc, .rtf, .rar, .txt, .htm, .html and .zip. Let's go over each one:
.odt: These files come from OpenOffice, the word processor of choice by Fanfiction.net [and me]. If you want it, click
here.
.doc: These files are from Microsoft Word's earlier versions. I HATE DOCX FILES. DON'T SEND ME THEM.
.rtf: These are rich-text files created by WordPad and Microsoft Word.
.rar and .zip: Only use these if you need to zip up multiple-part submissions.
.txt: Created by Notepad. They have no formatting options.
.htm, .html: Created by Microsoft Frontpage, Microsoft Word, and Notepad, these have maximum formatting options and are what I suggest submitting.
About .zip and .rar archives
Only submit your fic in a .zip or .rar archive if you're submitting multiple chapters of the same fanfic at once. Let's say you're giving me a fanfic called
"Raging Raven dates Naomi", and you sat down and wrote 5 chapters of it all at once. You'll zip all 5 of these up and give them to me in one submission.
However, if you're giving me 5 chapters of "Raging Raven dates Naomi" in addition to 7 chapters of "Snake Eats an Apple", the 7 chapters of "Snake Eats
an Apple" will need to be zipped up and sent to me in a different submission. Nomsayin'?
About html and htm submissions
This is the best way to send me your fanfic, since you have complete control over the formatting. However, it will be a nuisance if I have to remove a
bunch of tags. Here are the tags I will let you use:
<center>, <a>, <img>, <div> [for image captions], <strong>, <em>, <br>, <blockquote>, <strike>, <font>,
<b>, <i>, <u>, <hr>, <p>, <ul>, <li>, <ol>
About Microsoft Word
I hate Microsoft Word. It's responcible for the new "docx" format that openoffice doesn't support, and if you haven't noticed I lack Microsoft Word. This is
what I suggest doing if you type your fic in this awful program [like most people do]:
1. You can paste your completed and spell-checked fic into another program, such as WordPad, and then save it as an .rtf.
2. You can also download OpenOffice and use that instead, since it's better.
3. Or you can try to save as a different file type in Microsoft Word. However, since I lack the program, I cannot tell you how to do this. But I can help you
figure out when you're right: unhide your file extensions. And it just so happens, I can tell you how to do that below.
Unhide file extensions so you know what you're sending me
How to unhide file extensions: Go to my computer, then go to Tools > Folder Options. Then go to the View tab, uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file
types", then hit apply then OK. You should be good to go. Make sure you don't try to send me any .wps or .docx files.
DO NOT rename; it does not convert the file
Don't rename your file's extension to get it by my filter, because when I receive the file it won't work.
Proofread your fic!
I hope I don't have to deal with this too much. Just proofread your crap, you should be in no hurry to post what you write. I myself often keep fanfics tucked
away for months before posting them. I would also suggest a beta-reader; if you don't have one, you can find one on MW's forums or on
Fanfiction.net.
About rewrites and deletes
Sometimes, after you've written a fic and let it sit on the internet for a couple years, you come back to it and you're super-embarrassed at yourself for
posting such crap. That's normal, no need to worry. I would suggest a re-write, which is basically what it says: complete overhaul of the existing fanfiction.
If you rewrite your fic, you can have the old version updated by sending me the submission and just put a note for me in the comments area saying "hey
replace the old chapter 1 with this new chapter 1 I rewrote mmk" and I'll do that.
But if you want your fic outright deleted I guess I can do that to, just drop me a line. I would appreciate it if you didn't just shamelessly delete
things though, you are sure to make someone angry. Just because you don't like your fanfic doesn't mean other people won't. Just learn that for me,
okay? Also, if you want all your fics deleted, then your author page goes too.
Penname changes
These are a pain in the ass to handle, but if you really want a penname change I can do that for you. Just send me a note saying so. It may take a while for
it to come into effect though because changing all those pages with your old name might be a chore, and I tend to hold off long projects. By association,
that means NO CONSTANT CHANGES. Once a year is good for you.
About your author page
When you send me something, in the comment section you can give me a description of yourself that will be displayed on your author page. It can include
images, thumbnails for your fanfics, and all kinds of fun stuff like that. To do this, in the comment box, tell me something like this:
Hi Storm! I'm SolidSnake and here's what I want my author page to say: "I like the colour blue, I'm a dog musher, and I write fanfics in my spare time.
My OTP is Raging Raven/Naomi." I've included in my zip file a picture of me that I want you to put up on my page please, the file is ssnake.jpg. Bai
Quick note: images you send me are subject to being reduced in pixel size or having their extensions changed. Don't worry though, I'll try to not ruin
it.
About fanfic indexes
Multi-chaptered fanfics have a page with all the chapter titles on them. This is called a fanfic index or a table of contents. Oneshots do not have these
since they only have one chapter. If you want some extra content on the table of contents, like a summary of your fanfic or some overall author notes, drop
me the lines in the comments section. Say something like "Can you add the summary to the fic index page?" You can also give me thumbnails for each
individual chapter, just submit them in a zip with your fanfic. Another last thing is that you can also submit "title pages" -- artwork illustrations that would
mirror a title for the book if the fanfic was an actual book.
Just some ideas, if you want something else ask away in the comments box.
Quick note for crossovers
If your fic is a crossover, for one, make sure "crossover" is checked under the warnings section, and select one of the fandoms in the drop-down. Let me
give some examples of how you might submit crossovers:
I want to submit "PikaCon", which is a Metal Gear/Pokemon crossover. I'll just select "Pokemon" from the drop-down menu, check off "crossover" in the
warnings area, and in the comments box, I'll put down "crossover with Metal Gear."
I want to submit "DigiCon", which is a Metal Gear/Digimon crossover. I'll just select "Metal Gear" from the drop-down menu since Digimon isn't an
option, check off "crossover" in the warnings area, and in the comments box, I'll put down "crossover with Digimon."
I want to submit "Mortal Trauma", which is a Mortal Kombat/Trauma Center crossover. I'll just select "Other Fandoms" from the drop-down menu since
these aren't an option, check off "crossover" in the warnings area, and in the comments box, I'll put down "crossover between Mortal Kombat and Trauma
Center."
That should be about it, now time to submit!
*Remember, if you're sending me multiple files for the same fic at once, zip them up! This includes illustrations! Make sure proper credit is given to the
artist of your illustration if you yourself did not draw it.
*If your fanfic is a PWP, you do not need to check off the "lemon" warning. Hope that was obvious.
*When you select "other fandoms" from the drop-down menu, make sure to tell me what fandom it is for in the comments section.
*Keep your fanfic summary brief, and don't skip lines.
